Inclusive Care: Gender Diversity Essentials

This scenario-based eLearning project helps healthcare professionals develop inclusive communication skills to better support patients of diverse gender identities in clinical settings.

Tools Used

▸ The Solution

I created a branching, scenario-based module using microlearning principles. Recognizing physicians’ limited time, the course offers a flexible, cost-effective, and device-accessible solution. It weaves together practical strategies, authentic stories, and inclusive language to foster empathy and support real-world behavior change.

▸ The Problem

Staff reported uncertainty when interacting with gender-diverse patients. This led to frequent misgendering, reduced trust, and care avoidance—issues worsened by limited training access and inconsistent institutional guidance.

▸ Analysis & Goal Setting

Through Action Mapping and ADDIE, I aimed to reduce misgendering by 25% in six months. The design focused on three behaviors: respecting identity, approaching interactions openly and fostering affirming environments via inclusive language and patient-centered practices.

▸ Storyboarding & Scenarios

I scripted emotionally resonant clinical scenarios with meaningful choices and realistic consequences. A mentor character guides the entire module process, simulating peer support and reflection.

▸ Visual Design & Accessibility

I developed a calm, clean visual system, incorporating the organization’s logo colors for brand consistency. A style guide ensured consistency in typography, color, and navigation to support ease of use.

▸ Prototyping & Development

I built and tested an interactive prototype in Storyline, integrating Vyond videos, voiceovers, and branching logic. Iterative testing refined flow, usability, and instructional alignment across devices.

▸ Evaluation & Impact

I applied the Kirkpatrick Model across four levels. The evaluation included scenario-based assessments, peer observations, and learner surveys. The success metric: 25% reduction in misgendering incidents within 6 months.
